Terms & Conditions

The Terms and Conditions, under which one hires a motorhome from us, are exclusively stipulated in the hire agreement. This is reproduced below, it is the responsibility of ALL drivers of our vehicles to make themselves familiar with the terms and conditions as stated below. Being unaware of the following terms and conditions shall not form part or whole of any defence in the event of a dispute between any driver/hirer and Funky B Motorhomes Ltd.

Rental Contract


Your contract is with Funky B Motorhomes, 3 Railway Cottages, Badminton Road, Old Sodbury, Bristol, BS37 6LS.  The hire agreement forms part of these terms and conditions.


Deposits and Payments


At the point of reservation, 50% of the hire costs (which includes a £150 (non-refundable) deposit) is taken to reserve your chosen Motorhome for the agreed hire period.

If 50% of the hire costs equals less than £150 then the deposit will be £150.

We will then send you a booking confirmation, at which point our contract is binding. If our insurers levy an additional premium we will advise you of this as to how you wish to proceed. If insurance is declined we will inform you and return your deposit. (See below under ‘Drivers & Insurance’ for which drivers are covered as standard by our insurance.)

The balance of hire charges must reach us no later than 8 weeks prior to commencement of hire, or as soon as practicable for bookings made at short notice.
Security Deposit: A security deposit of £500 is due before the rental commences.
A deposit of £750 is required for motorhomes attending festivals.
Security deposit will be processed within two working days of the termination of the rental period – subject to the vehicle needing more than our standard cleaning, loss or damage to the equipment provided or you have damaged the vehicle, inside or out.


Drivers & Insurance


Hirers are aged between 25 and 75 years of age with a full valid UK/EU driving licence held for at least 24 months at the time of hire. Drivers with other licences and aged between 23 and 25 may be covered subject to insurer’s agreement. Just contact us to find out.

Driving licence – After 8th June 2015.

The DVLA has scrapped the paper part of your licence.

You will need to print off your Driver Licence Information, (within 3 days of your hire start date) from: https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
To do this you will need:

Driving licence number – from your licence photocard
Your National Insurance Number
Postcode from your licence photocard


Click ‘generate a code’ in the ‘Share your Licence’ section.
Print your Licence summary PDF.

Please bring the print out with you, on the day of hire.

The lead hirer (the person that the booking is made under) MUST bring a passport and 1 form of other addressed ID or 2 forms of addressed ID. If the IDs are utility bills or bank statements then they MUST BE LESS THAN 60 DAYS OLD.

The address on ALL IDs for the lead hirer MUST match the address of the lead hirer AND the bank card used to pay the security deposit – NO EXCEPTIONS will be made. Failure to comply with this will lead to a refusal to hire.

All additional drivers must provide 2 forms of addressed ID that match the address on their driving licence.

All drivers (lead and additional) MUST be present at the time of hire.

Any outstanding payments must be made on the day of hire.

A security deposit will be taken separately to any hire payments – THIS MUST BE TAKEN ON A CREDIT OR DEBIT CARD IN THE NAME OF AND AT THE ADDRESS OF THE MAIN HIRER.
It will greatly speed up the departure process if you can email copies of the documents mentioned above before your hire commences. The original of your ID and the driving license and paper counterpart however must be seen on the day of rental.
All licence endorsements must be notified at time of booking. Parking, up to two speeding offences in the past 3 years (6 points and under) and “Spent” convictions are allowable.
Our Insurer stipulates that a potential driver who falls into any of the below categories may not qualify for insurance. Therefore inform us if any of the below applies to potential drivers:


  • Persons who have been convicted of an offence in connection with the driving of a motor vehicle or motorcycle and/or have had their driving licence endorsed or suspended or penalty points imposed. Persons who have had their licence revoked by DVLA due to medical grounds or convictions.
  • Persons who have had their insurance declined and/or renewal refused and/or special insurance terms imposed as a result of claims experience and/or have had their insurance or cover cancelled by any Motor Insurer.
  • Persons engaged wholly or partly in professional entertainment or professional sports persons. Including jockeys and persons connected with racing. Foreign Service Personnel born abroad.
  • Persons who, whilst driving, have been involved in more than one accident during the past 3 years.

Any of the above incurred between booking and the commencement of hire must be notified us as this may affect your permission to drive. Any endorsements not notified to us will render the insurance void, the vehicle will not be hired to you and the hire charge will not be refunded.
Please note that our insurance does not cover damage to tyres or the vehicle’s habitation windows or theft of equipment or personal effects from the vehicle and these costs are the responsibility of the hirer.
The insurance excess of £500 must be met by the hirer in the event of any claim.

Cancellation Policy

In the unfortunate event that you have to cancel your booking the following charges apply:

  • More than 12 weeks prior to commencement of the hire – loss of £150 non-refundable deposit only.
  • Between 4 weeks and 12 weeks prior to the commencement of the hire – loss of 50% of the total hire charge.
  • Less than 4 weeks prior to the commencement of the hire – loss of the entire hire charge.

In all cases we will do our best to rehire the vehicle and if successful we will refund all payments except the £150 non-refundable deposit. We advise that you take out appropriate travel/holiday insurance to cover any cancellation.

Choice of Van

Although we want you to have the van of your choice, we must allow for unforeseen circumstances. We reserve the right to provide you with a suitable alternative, without notice, upon collection. Should a substitute not be available, our liability is limited to a full refund of monies we have received from you. We will not have any other liability to you. We reserve the right to refuse or to terminate any hire at our absolute discretion.


Collection time is normally between 3pm and 6pm. Please be on time for your vehicle collection and allow up to one hour for a full vehicle induction, during which time we will demonstrate full, proper and safe use of the vehicle. All drivers must be present at collection. We will need to see both parts of the driving licence and proof of address for every driver (e.g. council tax, telephone or utility bill dated within the last 60 days).
Parking your car is free, at owner’s risk, in our drive or car park for the duration of your holiday.


The hirer agrees to return the vehicle before 11:00AM on the final day of rental to our premises. It may be possible to return the vehicle at a later time, dependent on other hires. Later returns will be agreed in writing. No refund is given for the early return of the vehicle.
On arrival back at our premises, we will carry out a visual vehicle inspection If there are no problems found the security deposit will be returned, to the same method of original payment, and processed within two working days.
A cleaning charge of £75 will be deducted if the interior of the camper and its equipment (including cooker and utensils) are not reasonably clean on return.
A late return charge of £100 per day or part thereof will be levied in addition to compensation (the compensation for the hirer that is delayed by a late return will be by negotiation with said hirer – the amount decided could amount to the full cost of their hire in certain circumstances) for the next hire customer should the start of their rental period be delayed.
We are happy to post back any items left in our motorhomes. A minimum charge of £5 is made for any parcels posted.


If you realise that you have refuelled with the wrong fuel – DO NOT START THE ENGINE
We operate a FULL to FULL fuel policy – the vehicle must be returned with the same amount of fuel in the tank as at departure. Any fuel required on return will be charged at cost of refuelling plus a £30 refuelling charge.


In the event of the Motorhome being involved in an accident arising out of the use of the vehicle you must obtain the names, addresses and contact details of any third parties involved or witnesses and report the accident to the local Police. You must contact us at the earliest reasonable opportunity and complete an accident/incident report form, as supplied. Do not make any admission of liability, settlement offer or other like offer. Take photographs of the scene if possible.

Breakdown and equipment failure

Please contact us so that we may establish whether the problem can be resolved and advise you what to do. Reasonable agreed costs, supported by a VAT receipt, will be reimbursed but you must first contact us for authorisation.

Please do not attempt DIY repairs.
Full breakdown cover is provided for mechanical faults. If you breakdown, please contact us so that we can assist as necessary before phoning for recovery. In the event that you cannot make contact with us, please call our breakdown company directly.
We will offer a replacement motorhome, but this will be subject to availability. We cannot accept liability for any costs arising from accident, breakdown or any other cause, e.g., replacement vehicle costs, travel, or accommodation etc. Our liability only extends either to replacing your vehicle with a similar one, or refunding your hire charge for any days for which you lose the complete use of the vehicle – please take out the relevant holiday cancellation and curtailment insurance policy to cover this eventuality.

Theft and vandalism

In the event of an incident of theft or vandalism involving the vehicle you must obtain the names, addresses and contact details of any witnesses and report the incident to the local Police. You must contact us at the earliest reasonable opportunity and complete our accident/incident report form. Take photographs of the scene if possible. We cannot accept liability for any costs arising from such events, e.g. replacement vehicle costs, travel, accommodation, phone calls, personal belongings etc.

Conditions and Limitations on Use

Our vehicles are Mercedes Hymer Motorhomes, and as such are very reliable but they are still classic vehicles. Part of the attraction is the change of pace they deliver – acceleration comes eventually and top speed should be regarded as 60 mph!
In the event of any warning lights illuminating on the dashboard STOP immediately and seek assistance as damage may occur. Any damage caused by failure to do so will be charged to the hirer and is not covered by the insurance.
All drivers must be aware of the overhead height of the vehicle (3 metres) and are responsible for all damage due to hitting an overhead obstruction, such as height restrictions into car parks. Such damage is not covered by the insurance and the hirer will be responsible for all repair costs.

The Hirer Agrees:

To not smoking within the vehicle;
To ensure adequate ventilation when using cooking or heating equipment both for your safety and to preserve the condition of the interiors;
To protect the interests of the Insurer and the owner by ensuring the vehicle is always locked when unattended and the keys are secure;
to protect the interests of the insurer and owner by ensuring the TV/DVD is out of sight by way of the use of the blinds/curtains and that no valuables are left in sight of the vehicle windows on tables, the dashboard or the kitchen area.
to drive on a maintained public highway, or other adequately maintained road;
not to not carry more passengers than the seatbelt capacity of the vehicle or allow the vehicle to be overloaded;
not to operate the vehicle or permit the vehicle to be operated in any way that would violate this contract, including but not limited to carrying passengers or goods for hire or reward;
not to participate in motor sport events;
not to propel or tow any vehicle or trailer;
not to allow any person to drive when unfit through drink or drugs or with blood alcohol concentration above the limit prescribed for the time being by Road Traffic Legislation;
not to violate any law, ordinance or regulation;
not to allow any person to drive under authority of any licence other than his own;
not to drive in a reckless or imprudent manner;
not to leave the vehicle in a vulnerable position, such as on a junction or street corner, poorly lit or unsuitable areas.


Pets are not allowed in the motorhome.

Data Protection

Any personal information you give to us will be kept confidential and will only be used by ourselves and our insurers in connection with your hire of a Motorhome.
If you submit any stories or pictures sent to us for inclusion on our blog section of our website, you grant us permission to use such stories and pictures freely on our website and any other publications and to use your surname, county and month of hire.
We may use your contact details to occasionally notify you about news and information we think you might find valuable. If at any stage you decide that you would rather not receive such information, please contact us.

European Travel

Our insurance covers all countries of the European Union.
All vehicles will be provided with full UK Breakdown Cover.


These Terms & Conditions may be amended at any time without notice. If an amendment is made prior to the commencement of hire you will be issued with revised Terms & Conditions.

We reserve the right to: Vary rates and conditions at any time prior to confirmation of any booking. Refuse to hire to any person(s) for any reason and not to hand over the vehicle if we believe the hirer is not suitable for any reason. Terminate the contract and repossess the vehicle at any time due to breach of these terms and conditions, misuse, damage or accident. The hirer accepts that Funky B Motorhomes decision on any issue in relation to these terms and conditions is final.
